John Stamos has checked into rehab, various news sources confirm. A month after he was arrested for driving under the influence, the 51-year-old Full House star is reportedly seeking treatment for “substance abuse issues” at an in-patient program.
On June 12, Stamos was pulled over in Beverly Hills on suspicion of drunk driving and taken to a local hospital, where “subsequent investigation at the hospital determined that he was driving under the influence,” said a police officer involved in the arrest.
The following day, Stamos wrote on Twitter: “Thanks to everyone for their love & support. I’m home & well. Very appreciative of the BHPD & Cedars for their care.”
This was not the first time the actor’s drinking had gotten him into trouble. Back in 2007, he made headlines for “bizarre behavior” after he appeared inebriated on an Australian morning talk show. He later blamed the incident on a combination of jet lag and the powerful sleeping pill, Ambien. “I was not drinking,” he said at the time. “I did not drink either morning. I do not have an alcohol problem … This is not a pattern.”
Just hours before news of his rehab stint broke, it was reported that Stamos had pulled out as co-host of the 2015 Emmy nominations announcement, scheduled for this Thursday.
