The prison stay for rapper Beanie Sigel (real name Dwight Grant) has been extended up to two years for possession of illegally obtained prescription pills. Sigel, who is currently serving two years for tax evasion, pleaded guilty yesterday to a misdemeanor charge of possessing Percocet not prescribed by a doctor. His additional time in jail could range anywhere from six to 23 months. Sigel was arrested last August, just weeks before starting his current prison term, when police noticed his car swerving out of its lane. A search of the car turned up several unidentified prescription pills wrapped in plastic bag inside a cigarette pack and a bottle of codeine syrup with the label scratched off. Cops also found a loaded caliber handgun in the car, forbidden for both the rapper and the driver of the vehicle who are both convicted felons and banned from possessing firearms. Sigel’s attorney Carson Morris hopes the rapper will be able to serve the two sentences concurrently. “Mr. Grant has been a successful entertainer and musician in the Philadelphia community for decades. Obviously, he’s had an incredible amount of success and opportunity in his life,” said Morris, “He’s also made some mistakes, which have ended up putting him in custody. He’s ready to go ahead and put that behind him and move on with his life.”
