The viral online comedy series Drunk History has been picked up by Comedy Central and will be back on the small screen this summer. Created by Derek Waters for Funny or Die, each episode features a heavily intoxicated narrator recounting an important historical event while A-List actors—from Will Ferrell and Don Cheadle to Ryan Gosling—dramatically re-enact the slurred story (check out one of the original episodes, below). But while the drama is acted, the drunkenness is real—so real that in one episode the narrator is even seen throwing up on the bathroom floor midway through the story. “How did this come out of my body?” he asks, “There’s pineapple pieces. I know I chewed it.” After first charming its way on to HBO in 2010, the series has earned another run on a new network, but without abandoning its true vision. “Will [Ferrell] and I have always believed booze brings out truth,” said Adam McKay, who will work alongside Waters and Ferrell on the Comedy Central leg of the project. “Sometimes that truth involves hitting on airport bar janitors or eating cheese fries at 4 a.m. But in this case, we hope that truth will shine on our nation’s history.”
