Tracey Helton Mitchell and her life-saving contributions are being recognized in this piece from NBC News. Tracey has made it her mission to mail out harm reduction kits (doses of Narcan and unused needles) to those in need who reach out to her.
Narcan, or naloxone, reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. For many, Narcan is either unavailable in their areas or they simply can’t afford it.
Her Narcan kits have also inspired others to give back to the harm reduction community. Tracey has sent out about 2,000 kits since the start of her mission and has received many messages of gratitude from recipients, some of whom have gone on to enter recovery. Here’s her story:
