Milestone Detox is a co-ed facility focusing on detox from drugs and alcohol. It is located in the beachside suburban town of San Juan Capistrano in southern Orange County, an hour southeast of Los Angeles, California. CEO Shawn Whitt founded Milestone Detox in 2015.
Facility and Meals
The six-bed facility is much like a family home, located on a quaint plot of palm-flocked, grassy land adjacent to its suburban neighbors and near the beach. The entryway leads onto a sunny brick courtyard that the house centers around. Directly off the courtyard is a lounge area with a leather armchair and large couches seated around a well-appointed rug and table. There are TVs and games in the home’s communal spaces.
There are two clients per room, and all bedrooms feature twin beds and separate wardrobes alongside a closet space. Some bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows; others feature a sliding door opening onto a patio and lounge chairs that overlook the backyard.
The home boasts a large kitchen with granite countertops and a brushed aluminum alcove, where a private chef creates individualized meals catering to every client’s dietary needs and preferences. The dining room overlooks an outdoor grilling area and has a family-sized dining table with bright settings.
Treatment Protocol and Team
Upon arrival residents receive an intake assessment with a therapist, during which time an individualized treatment plan is made. Following stabilization, clients receive support and monitoring of their wellbeing as well as treatment for issues like malnutrition or dehydration. Programming includes Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) in addition to group therapy and psychotherapy with a licensed therapist or addiction counselor. Milestone Detox offers both rapid detox and a tapering-off program.
Therapy includes relapse prevention education, identification of personal values, development of life skills and trauma therapy. Modalities used at Milestone Detox may include CBT, biofeedback, creative therapies, experiential therapy, MET, DBT and faith-based treatment.
Stays at the facility typically last from seven to 10 days. Aftercare involves connection to other treatment programs, which can address dual diagnoses and family systems issues.
The treatment team includes MFTs, behavioral health technicians, CADCs, case managers, licensed therapists and addiction counselors. Residents receive around the clock care.

Clients can also expect massage, art and music therapy, nutritional guidance, guided meditation, experiential therapies, acupuncture, fitness therapy and yoga.
