A staffer for Republican Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi was charged last week with possession of crystal meth, which he allegedly intended to distribute in exchange for sexual favors.
Fred W. Pagan, who works as personal assistant and office administrator for Cochran, was arrested after law enforcement raided his Washington, D.C., home and found 181 grams of methamphetamine, imported from China.
Authorities searched his home after customs agents intercepted a package addressed to Pagan that contained over a kilo of GBL, a substance similar to GHB, the “date rape drug.” He allegedly told officials he had received three other packages of GBL.
According to court documents, Pagan admitted to investigators that “he intended to distribute both the GBL and methamphetamine in exchange for sexual favors.” He was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
“Senator Cochran is disturbed and deeply saddened by the arrest of his long-time aide Fred Pagan, and is suspending him of all duties pending the outcome of this case,” said a statement from Cochran’s office released last week.
