Bobbi Kristina Brown was “under the influence of drugs” when she was found unresponsive in her bathtub last month, sources told People magazine.

The 21-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston has been in critical condition since she was rushed to the hospital on January 31, and currently remains in a medically-induced coma.

The report has fueled ongoing speculation that Brown’s drowning was drug-related. People claims that Brown had been drinking heavily and using heroin, Xanax, and other drugs in recent months, according to “multiple sources.” Her mother died with cocaine in her system three years ago after a long history with substance abuse and addiction.

Since then, one source claims Brown had been struggling with addiction and had been “in and out” of rehab several times. Her substance abuse reportedly spiraled as she approached the anniversary of her mother’s death on February 11. Another source said in recent months she often seemed to be high and incoherent due to drugs and alcohol.

“How thin she had gotten is an indicator,” said one source. “This girl was trying hard, but she didn’t have any support system. She was still dealing with a lot of grief over her mother.”
